Attendance and Reporting Absence

There is a clear and established correlation between good attendance and achievement. When pupils miss schooling for any reason, their progress is affected. Analysis of Rawlins exam results shows that when attendance drops below 96% (just 7 days in a whole academic year), progress is likely to be affected. When pupils do not attend school they:

  • Miss out on valuable teaching and other extra-curricular experiences;
  • Fall behind with their work and can lose confidence because of this;
  • Can find it difficult to catch up with missed work which becomes a vicious circle;
  • Can find that they lose friendship groups, leading to feelings of isolation and low self-esteem.

Rawlins Academy aims to meet its obligations with regards to school attendance by:

  • Promoting good attendance and reducing absence, including persistent absence;
  • Ensuring every pupil has access to full-time education to which they are entitled;
  • Acting early to address patterns of absence.
