The Gatsby Benchmarks

The Gatsby Benchmarks are a key measure of the effectiveness of careers advice. They are also a very important part of the Government’s career strategy. The Gatsby Benchmarks are a framework of 8 guidelines that define the best careers provision in schools and colleges.

  • Benchmark 1 – A Stable Career’s Programme
  • Benchmark 2 – Learning from Career and Labour Market Information
  • Benchmark 3 – Addressing the Needs of Each Student
  • Benchmark 4 – Linking Curriculum Learning to Careers
  • Benchmark 5 – Encounters with Employers and Employees
  • Benchmark 6 – Experiences of Workplaces
  • Benchmark 7 – Encounters with Further and Higher Education
  • Benchmark 8 – Personal Guidance

Measuring the impact of the Careers Guidance:

We regularly measure and assess the impact of our careers guidance programme.  Maintaining the highest scores during a pandemic has been difficult, but the compass tracker allows us to see where we are doing well, and where there are gaps; here is the compass tracker for Rawlins.  The tracker enables us to record and identify how we are improving our careers education activity against the eight benchmarks of best practice – known as the Gatsby Benchmarks
